Best thing
•The residents
•Making a change to their lives
•Time 1/2 for bank holidays
•Wagestream accessWorst thing
•Lack of seriousness when it comes to discipline and accountability for other members of staff
•Bitchy, clique environments (ie, management vs carers)
•Laziness from staff members
•Lack of training (ie, Nourish)
•Unpaid breaks (15 mins at 10:30, 30 mins at 2:30 and 15 {if you’re lucky} mins at 7:00) all on a 12 hour shift.
•Unpaid sick time and made to feel lazy or unreliable when poorly
•Manager seems to live on holiday, has been in work only a handful of times, yet declines others holiday requests (even though given months of notice for them)
•9/10 always underpaid and then given excuses as to why your hours have been sent to the accountant wrong, yet never rectified and consistently being repeated.
•No free lunch, and if you’re wanting a meal, it’s a cash only payment, which is no good if you only have card.
•Complete lack of communicationCare assistant at Akari Care, May 2023

Best thing
The team I work with is amazing, I couldn’t recommend my workplace anymore. Management is always trying their hardest to make sure their staff are comfortable and doing well. They are really understanding concerned mental health and issues at home that may be affecting your ability to work.
Worst thing
I honestly couldn’t complain

Best thing
The residents. I love helping them
Worst thing
We have that much extra to do we don't have time for breaks or to sit and spend quality time with residents. Most days we don't get our full breaks. We worry constantly that when we leave the floor the other carers are left in limbo. During covid I have had 2 hours added to my day because of public transport cuts. I live in jarrow. I leave the house at 6-15 am and get home at 9-45 pm. I am exhasted
