We are seeking Sergeants with excellent leadership skills to work as Custody Sergeants in one of our three custody units; Patchway, Keynsham and Bridgwater.

Applicants will undertake a course and a period of inhouse tutorship/mentoring program prior to being accepted for the role. Sergeant who have previously carried out the custody role may well be exempt from this requirement. Dependent on experience and previous service etc.

You will be expected to determine the appropriate course of action for each detained person and ensure a secure and safe environment whilst allowing an expeditious investigation in accordance with PACE, Codes of Practice, consistent with the principals of the CPS guidelines, Home Officer policy, force policy and any other relevant legislation.

Using your excellent communications skills will enable you to provide appropriate liaison with external agencies and investigating officers, by implementing all relevant guidelines or legislation. This position will also require the successful officer to compile and analyse the evidence presented and maintain appropriate entries on records producing routine and ad hoc reports as necessary.

You will also supervise 2 to 3 Detention Officers ensuring effective performance of the running of the Custody function.

There may well be opportunities to carry out the Acting Custody Inspector roles for qualified Sergeants showing the relevant drive, leadership and professionalism.
