What employees are saying about Boots Opticians

Best thing
Dealing with patients. When you can really help to solve an issue they are having can be so rewarding for example allowing a child to see the board in school so that he can have an education
Worst thing
Management not filtering down information that is sent to store that we need to know. This is made worse due to the fact many of the staff work part time so aren’t getting to hear this information on time

Best thing
Living wage , some nice customers and very interesting job
Worst thing
A very complex job that I think deserves more money, I have friends that work in grocery shops on more than me, there is so much knowledge needed and a massive amount of learning. Can be very stessfull and often horrible customers. Higher management don’t have much understanding of optics and do not care about being short staffed , when talking about staff being short staff management that don’t work in store do not consider walk ins (people w out apt) and that some dispenses can take up to an hour and everything else we do that doesn’t include are set apintment

Best thing
It is dynamic and interesting. There is a lot of information to learn, so once you know there is plenty to keep your brain active while working. It isn't boring.
Worst thing
It can be very stressful, there is a lot to remember and you have to deliver it with confidence to customers. There are challenging targets to meet that do not match the current economy, making it difficult to hit them. Customers can be very difficult at times, and you could be with the same difficult, mean or rude person for about 30 minites, up to as much as an hour.

Best thing
People I work with, good team, team leader is nice and flexible and understandable
Worst thing
High management are not helpful, don't care if we are short staff, change our rotas last minute and keep moving us around stores in one day you're in Central London next day in canary wharf when is not necessary, causing anxiety and stress. No career progress.

Best thing
It's busy so you're kept going and most of the patients are very nice.
Worst thing
It's very stressful and we get paid terribly for what is a skilled job.
